Your Sense of Belonging:
The Right Environment for the
Environmentalist in You.

The community that fits in with you.

Meet the neighbors: People who share solid values and act on them together. Our residents themselves organized the environmental practices that keep our community in harmony with nature. They’re as apt to teach a class as attend one; you’ll find people with fascinating backgrounds and experiences. They’re also free-spirited and friendly, always ready to stage a high-spirited block party to welcome newcomers. Above all, they cherish family the way all Texans do.

Our residents always have something to say—especially about Querencia. So do their sons and daughters.

Resident Darrell Royal needs no introduction to football fans. As Head Coach at the University of Texas, he's known as "the winningest coach in Longhorn history," and has earned a place in the College Football Hall of Fame.  Here's why Coach Royal and his wife Edith love Querencia:

"It's not often that a person gets the chance to be involved in something so extraordinary that it will change the way we think, view life and look to the future. That's why I'm so honored to have served on the board of directors for Austin's newest life care retirement community, Querencia at Barton Creek.

Though my wife, Edith, and I are both retired, we're busy people who enjoy leading active lives. Querencia is the perfect complement to our lifestyle -- providing us greater freedom to enjoy the things we love to do and offering new opportunities to grow. But more than anything else, Querencia is a place where we can get away from life's worries -- where we're able to unwind, relax and truly be ourselves.

I am proud to be a part of shaping a way of life that will truly benefit Austin area seniors, and am happy to now call Querencia home. With the most progressive services and amenities, spacious apartment homes, and the guaranteed lifetime protection that life care provides, Querencia will inspire those with a passion to live life to its fullest potential.

We invite you to join us and explore Querencia at Barton Creek -- you're sure to discover a personal sanctuary all your own."

Sincerely,

Darrell Royal

Jill Durkee is a speech therapist at a geriatric rehabilitation center. She’s seen first-hand the struggle people face when they suddenly have to find help for a parent who needs care. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case for her in-laws, Bob and Jean Durkee, who moved to Querencia while they were still active.

“Querencia has made my father-in-law ten years younger. He never misses water aerobics. They’re in a book club, they travel, they cook for friends. They love to get up in the morning.

“Bob and Jean love the food so much, on Christmas morning, they opened presents at home with us, then we all drove back to Querencia to enjoy Christmas brunch together. The same thing happened on Mother’s Day!

“Bob and his buddies are in a walking group. If someone misses a day, they chastise each other, ‘Where were you? In bed?’ They look out for each other.

They’ve never looked back, never regretted selling their big home. My father-in- law says, ‘Thank goodness I don’t have to worry about that any more.’

“But the peace of mind we have, knowing they’ll always be cared for…that’s been their greatest gift to us. We never have to worry about them as they grow older.. We thank them for that every day.”
